Treating Ick/pump Question

I've got some treating for ick my goldsish seems to have it. The treatment says to remove carbon from my pump if it has any, but i'm not sure which bit the carbon is! It's the HBL-501 hanging filter. Not sure if anyone is familiar with it, but it came with the tank, has no instructions and the writing on the box is mostly japanese/chinese. It's got a white fiber type material in it as well as a big black sponge. Either of these carbon?

Black carbon is usually black so it might be the black sponge, is the black sponges also coarse.

No it's not course, more shiny and smooth.

I would ring the manufacture up then.
It sounds like black carbon.
