Hello all

Just wondering if anyone can help me. I am treating my tank for ich at the moment and have raised the temp to 29-30 c 84-86 f over the past few days to help with the ich problem. Is this temp too high or is it ok. Also can raising the temp kill the ich without the need for chemicals. Thanks to anyone that can help :D

Your temp is great for treating ICH. I have seen where raising the temp, turning off the lights and adding some aquarium salt and water changes has ended in ICH outbreak. So yes it can be done. I usually use a med just to make sure as this can be a real pain if it does not go away. I usually treat for 3 weeks to ensure that the outbreak is completely over. HTH

Thanks for your quick reply.

How long should you leave the temp this high for? Can keeping it high longterm cause damage to the fish? They seem ok at the moment :)

usually keep it high until at least one week from the date that you last see any visible signs of the ICH. Then bring it down a few degress at a time so as not to stress the fish. Some fish dont like high temps such as guppies and zebras. there are others so just look up the fish you have and see what their temp range is if any of them start to look sluggish or stressed. HTH :)

Thanks Lenna I feel more reasured that im doing the right thing now
