Oh no Really, really sorry to read this James. Totally gutted for you, he was an amazing fish.

I understand you wanting to move away from cichlids, this kind of thing makes you question keeping fish, but it is just a part of fishkeeping unfortunately.

That's awful he was stunning and looked a heck of a lot better then my sad reject ebjd. Mine is now about 3 and blind in one eye. He has not aged well. As you know the ebjd is a finicky fish prone to health problems. You did something right to get yours grew out as well has he did. I am sure he had a good life. Still it's a bummer.

Yeah, absolutely devastated. I'd never think of giving up the hobby, but you look at your tank after and it just doesnt seem the same. Devastating. Only thing i want to do is attempt a different angle within the hobby now. So i've been painstakingly researching about paludariums. I have everything all saved in my eBay Watch List and have it all priced up. Just researching the finer points now, but stockwise all my current stock will be in the classifieds very soon. I'll send you a pm Chris when i come to sell the female Jack, don't worry.

Planned idea (currently) is 1/3 water, 2/3 land, with a mixture of aquatic and terrestrial plants both in/out and inbetween the water level. Contained, with ventilation and kept moist in the approriate places with a waterfall/drip wall and an air stone or two. Planned stocking i have 5 ideas. Idea 1 - A single Toxotes Jaculatrix (freshwater Archer fish), Idea 2 (gf's idea) - an Axolotl or two. Idea 3 - 3 or 4 Rope Fish. Idea 4 - Caecillian (yeah!). Idea 5 - Oto's and shrimp with something show-like?

Nothing will come close to Jack though....
