This might go in the tropical freshwater section...but it's about LR, so I dunno.

Anyhoo! I can't find any decent rocks to use in my cichlid tank. Or if I do, they're the same price as LR! So I was wondering if I could get LR, and "de-cure" it. Granted, it'll kill off all those poor little critters, whilest in quarantine...but then would the actual rock part be okay to put in a freshwater tank?
Also, I know coral raises pH, but does LR? My pH is already 8.2, and I don't think I want it much higher. (I also have really hard water, but don't know the exact measurement of that)

I used base rock in my FW with Ciclids before I got into marines, was ok, and the fish seemed happy but I didn't like the look so changed to volcanic rock.

But in my marine tank I added about 15kg of base rock as umm, a base for the live rock and it has seeded very quickly and looks great. I only did this because I couldn't afford 100% live rock for the look I was going for.

Using uncured rock seems a waste of cash to me, base rock is cheaper!

Cheers,

Bryce.
