Hi guys

After deciding that the cats werent moving to the new house i promised the girlfriend we would have a go at keeping tropical fish.

Ive been looking at the juwel tanks wit stands,, not decided on model yet but will be between 140-180 UK litres

Basically i wanna know what i need to buy, and what kinda fish/quantity i can put in the tank,,

Pictures of different fish would be a huge bonus..

Any other Q's please ask
Thanks for your help guys

Cheers

Hi! I was in the same situation the otherday.

I am kind-of new but I have rapidly learnt thanks to the people here.

So you are having a nice-size tank for a beginner. I beleive 140 litres is 30 odd uk gallons. And 180 litres is 39 gallons, roughly.

I have a link here with good beginning fish, I have had my tank set-up for a week and still no fish.

Anyhow, heres he link http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/easyfish.htm

On that link you can find good community fish, it also shows characteristics etc

Welcome.

Hope I helped,

Kayla xx :D

Hi, again.

If you have a heavy hood/lid on the tank, the cats wont stand a chance. Though my cats can't get to my tank because it is in my bedroom and I have four hamsters, five gerbils and a tortoise in there so my cats are banned :p

A good hint is, before getting carried away with certain fish you want, remember to ask yourself.... What temperature they need?, If they will mix with other certain fish you want?, How big will they grow? and all the genral questions.

Also you should think about what pH they need.

It would be ideal if you could buy a tank with everything including heater, airpump, stand, hood, filter, gravel etc... so it is all together so you don't need to forget anything, etc.

You can have loads of fish.... wish I could get a tank that big... hehe.. MUUUUUUM??

This is all I can help you with.. my knowledge is pretty..um.. limited atm :p

right, before u take a look at fish, take a look at what u need to do to help the fish that u will be dumping into ur new tank..

not to sound disrespctful in any way shape or form, but 30gals isnt that bag... u couldnt stock loads of fish in it... it depends on what fish ur havin for one :/ loads of little tetras yeah sure... but like i said it depends on the fish, what size they grow ect.....

its a nice size tho for either a community tank, or a species tank... as long as u chose carfully and they dont grow to big :D

i like the sound of your 40gal tank

have you got any pictures of the angels, sword tails and crab??

Would i be able to keep the same sort of variation in my tnak if i cut the numbers down?

pics would be great,, cheers

 Just don't ditch your fish like you did the cats. :sly:
its not a case of ditching the cats,, shes moving from her parents house with a huge garden and field at the back to a house in a new estate with many houses still to be completed

why move them when there happy where they are?

its not a case ot ditching, more leaving them where they are happy
