Tortoise

Yeah but they are not in the wild, you could say that about any animal. No animal should really be kept in doors if you think like that. I must admit that when the weather is good then the tort should be outside and when ever possible the tort should be let out. But i think a tort would live fine on a tort table. We will have to agree to disagree but i can see what you mean. If it didnt always rain here then i would leave mine (when i get it) outdorrs, but because it does and they are not edapted to live in our climate outdoors isant an option IMO. Also from the constant being wet by the rain cant they get shell rot? Also isant humidity bad for them, and in a house outside when it is raining im sure there will be quite a bit of humidity.

Im not saying that you are mistreating your torts, your tort houses look really good. When i get my tort i will have to invest in a little run.

once the tort is 5/6 it should be outside consistantly. but under tht age it can be kept in a table but it should be put outside everyday. honestly when i first got into torts i didnt put my baby outside i kept it inside its shell couldnt get hard because of lack on UV (the lights are CRAP) and they both died. i have since learned and have raised some beautiful babies.

by almeans keep the tort indoors at night time but during the day put him/her outside in a run. ok maybe not when its real bad rain but when its sunny/normal weather please put it outside. trust me you will waste your money. also get a herman as hermans are a good starter tortoise.

I have a really big garden that gets lots of sunshine and when my tort is older it can spend all summer out side and some days after if its not pooring down. But i will be getting a young tort and as you said bring them in for nights. Im a bit worried though as there are foxes, cats and big birds (im not sure what they are must have been pets but they are MASSIVE could easily pick up a small tort, what can i do? I cant sit outside all day and i doubt my mum would let me put im a massive run. Maybe it could be in a run until its bigger then i will just have to keep it safe somehow.

I appreciate that you didn't 'shout' and scream about it but just explained it, i do actually understand what you mean. If only the tort forum at reptileforums.co.uk were full of helpful people like you DiscusAngel :good:

Well, as you can see my run is half mess half wood. i have bricks on either side to weigh it down and also i used to Peg it down with nail pegs.

you might want to visit Here for some great tortoise information.

im glad you find me help and i have always found the nice approach goes down better than the bad approach.

also, if you get say a 6month year old tort 4 days a week it could go outside till its 1/2 then once its past 2 it needs to be outside 7days a week for about 8 hours a day.

Good luck! also may i reccomend you search your local area for a tort because plymouth discus' torts are pricey imo. also i live 10mins away from them so if you order a tort ill go see it :D lol.
