Torch Coral Issue

Well I tried to feed the hurt head, but it's all closed up for the night and will not attach any food to it's tentacules. I will give it another shot tomorrow. I also think the squid piece were too big, I will feed mysys shrimp tomorrow.

If you try to divide the heads, make sure you are very careful. If you accidently break through the hard cover into the tissue base of one of the heads, most likely you will lose that head. The LFS that divided mine used long shears ridgid enough to cut tin. If I did it myself, I would put some of my tank water in a small container, place the coral into the small container, and use a diamond hacksaw blade to percisionally cut through the rock joint between the heads. I would cut in a small container to prevent cutting debris from getting into my tank. Good luck if you divide the heads.

The only thing I might do is remove the dead part. At this point i'm still trying to save it.

The heads become different animals when their flesh separates from one another. Until they grow away from each other enough for the flesh to separate technically they are still one animal. Mine eats smaller mysis/brine/etc when I feed the tank.

Well i'm going to assume that it is dead now. That one polyp is all closed up and doesn't have any tentacules sticking out. I will attribute the dead to starvation. My water parameter are perfectly fine, nothing else as died or changed in my tank for the past month.

What should I do at this point...leave the dead part in or should I remove it or will it come back to life?

I've never seen a torch head recover from a brown jelly infection. You're better off removing it to keep the excess waste out of the tank. If you want, you can clean the skeleton and throw it back in a sump for buffering/etc (its just calcium carbonate), but will probably end up looking a little unsightly in the display

Well now there are some sorts of white plate coming out of the "dead" head.....The rest of the animal is doing great.

Thanx for the help

:)
