The top half of my Java fern baby offshoot leaves are going translucent. The lower halves of the leaves are all plush and nice but the top half are green and see through. The lighting should be ok (a 50W daylight for a 10 gal) so are the plants missing something (potassium, phosphates, Nitrates) Any help would be really usefull :) Cheers

Hey DrOizo,

I have the same problem.... I have 80 watts on 30 Gals..

How often do you do water changes and how much?

Try using a fertiliser like LeafZone I use it weekly and it keep sall my plants lovely and green, you could also try some root tabs.

Hey DrOizo,

I asked the same question on another forum and I was told that this is a natural behaviour.. the leaf will get all green as it grows.. just give it some time..

Actually as I remember now, when the leaf was in the early stages, it was all translucent. so it must fill up from the bottom all the way up..

I've been noticing that with my Java Ferns and I think oazanki is right. The leaves almost appear to get longer in two "stages"... thin transparent growth and then thick green growth filling in after it.
