Opinions... I really want to hear your opinions on this. I'm deciding what brand to go for.
Aqueon is more expensive but seems to be the better option as far as quality and what lids fit...
But would topfin work? Idk, please debate here lol

Go take a look at the siliconing. On the smaller tanks (20 and under) some brands really skimp. Also, try to lift them. Some cheaper brands are very light, which 'reflects' the quality of glass used.

Don't decide on the tops available, but on the walls and bottom.

Petco sells Aqueon and I like to take advantage of their tank sales.
I got a Top Fin aquarium stand from Petsmart though. And it's pretty good.

I have three TopFin tanks and they are all working great. There all less than a year old so I don’t know the long term durability.

I know in the past aqueon was better than top fin, however with the glass shortages from COVID it seems that aqueon has gotten a little cheaper/sloppy in their builds so I think now both brands are pretty much the same quality. Although because Petco does have a 50% off sales for their aquariums (10, 20 long/high, 40B and 55) a couple times a year there's still more popular than the top fin tanks. Although I preferred it when it was a dollar a gallon and included the 75 gallon tanks as well. Especially in today's economy where no one can afford anything because everything is so inflated in price. Everything is three times the cost that it was, but our paychecks are not three times bigger than they were.

I'll have to try looking at that!

I would say always choose the best quality you can afford 👍🏻 after that it comes down to personal preference, aesthetics etc.
Well, I actually do have to look at what tops are available for them cause Im seeing things where the topfin lids dont fit or they dont have 40b lids idk... But I know aqueon does, its just aqueon is VERY expensive at my lps and there is no petco near me. (closest one is an hour a way and my mom doesnt want to go all the way out to get one just to find out it has a leak, and even if it doesnt she is worried that the drive back will damage it in some way... I guess she may have a point).
Topfin wins me over with pricing and availability but Im not sure on quality or what lids they have available...

Do you have glass lids on yours? If so what brand and how do they fit?

Yah, I would get aqueon from petco but its like an hour or so away... The closest store that carries aqueon is my lps and they charge $150 for that and then $42 for the lid

Erm...WHAT?? You have to buy the lid separately? What a joke! I'd boycott the brand/shop just on principle 🧐 talk about extortion! One would expect the lid to be included with the tank

I have two top fin tanks. The manufacturing on both is quite good, reasonable silicone seals, thicker glass (they are both talls), bevelled edges on the exposed glass edges.

Mine have an issue though and that is they do not have standard size tops. So if you break a glass top or want to fit something inside them that is a standard size it will not work. For example the Top Fin cover glasses are 1/8 of an inch too large for the internal top dimensions of my 37 gallon tank. This might not seem a big deal but trying to cut an 1/8 inch off the glass cover with scoring and breaking is next to impossible.

I believe Top Fin is PetSmart's brand and the tanks, cover glass, filters and heaters all where other brands at one time.

My choice would be Aqueon for the tanks. Top Fin at Pet Smart does have nice “kits” with the tanks, filters, covers and lighting. I prefer to get the bare tank and buy the other items as I choose. And yes, Petco does have some sweet deals on the plain tanks a few times a year for the Aqueon brand. Both brands are top notch, sometimes quality control is missing and you will have a bad product from any manufacture. The good thing with me is within 10 miles from my house, I have a Petco, a Pet Smart, and a Pet Supplies Plus!!

Huh... So the lids don't really work on top fin then?... That's very frustrating...

Well you can get the top fin tanks separately from the sets tbf.
But I'm siding towards aqueon as far as quality and lid availability...
Thanks!

Yea I was surprise that the top fin lids did not fit the top fin tanks. The tanks I got were part of a kit that had a very poor canopy, filter, heater, and light, all for a price less than just a tank. The accessories were poor quality in my opinion but I like the tanks. I have no experience with Aqueon. I also have a 60 and 75 gallon Marineland tank, I am happy with both.
