i have a 30 and a 50 gallon tank in my roomn, too lazy to take them out and i usally just turn off the power becuase the filters are to loud.

is there any filter that is super quite?

i have an overhang whisper filter. and it sure does not sound like a f******* whisper.

Externals are usually extremely quiet. I can't even hear my Fluvals (almost 3 years old) when I'm unplugging them to start a water change.

I have an Aquaclear Power filter and it is quiet except for the sound of the waterfall which is relaxing. Is it the motor that is loud ?

My rena canister is quiet and my fuval 2 is dead silent. I often have to look for a current to see if it is on. I tried a aquaclear HOB and found it extremely noisy at night.

the waterfall sound is what keeps me up, is there a cheap replacement for it?

alot of filter come with an overhang for the exit of the filter. It's basically a piece of plastic grate that has vertical zig zags to slow the water down as it falls so it won't make as much noise. Also, noise is reduced the closer the tank level is to the output of the filter so try raising the tank water level if you can and it should reduce the noise level of the water. :good:

You could try jimmying up a piece of foam on the outlet as well to try and slow the freefall speed of the exit water but this will just create another piece that needs to be cleaned regularly from either algae growth or gunk being caught.

You just need to fill up your tank. The more space the waterfall has to fall, the louder it will be. And also make sure it is aligned straight. if it is tilted that may also cause loudness.

My whisper is utterly silent unless I have not added water lately.

I have a couple Rena canister filters (XP2 & XP3) and they are near silent. :good:
I wish I could say the same about my XP3. Too noisy to be in the cupboard and it now sits on the floor beside the tank. It's quieter nowthan when it was first switched on and is OK when the goggle box is on but irritating if I'm reading.
Curious to see what others think in this post because I am already thinking about an Eheim 2028 as a replacement.

I fill the tank, but the level goes down in like 1 day cuz i live in the desert. Where can i find those zig zags?
