Getting the filter media from your uncle is the best way.

If he's giving the fish away he obviously won't be needing it.

he is leaving the tank at his house it was included with price cso i cant take that i just ened a quick way fo getting the tank ready its all heated and been filled up has a cave in there for raes and some bushy plants

wouldn't the bacteria in the fillter media just die with nothing to feed it so basically by using it to clone your really doing whoever is going to use your uncles old tank a favour. If they even use it.

so take some of the gravel and the filter media from his tank, and just replace it with new gravel and filter media that you would have been using anyways. everyone is happy then

soak you filter meida in 'Biological Aquarium Supplement' then piss in you tank for a cople of days!!!! should do the trick keep an eye on the levels
