I was at the petstore today and was "glancing" at the glass fish, (Okay, I'll admit it!! I bought some!!) and saw was a soft beauty they have about them. They are so graceful and you can just stare at them for hours. The painted variety however seems so harsh in comparison. I look at them, and while they are techinically the same fish, they somehow don't seem as nice. What do you think?

LOL Like we didn't know!! :)

I don't like the painting or dying of fish. It really pisses me off actually. Fish are beautiful in their own right, there is no need for money hungry ####holes to harm the fish and the hobby by creating these poor creatures.

That is not to say that people should feel bad for having them providing that they do not buy them knowingly.

painted glass-fish are literally painted glass-fish i suppose woud be okay IF YOU TREATED THEM LIKE KINGS that would make up for the cruelty of diying and painting if we all stoped buying them they would stop selling them

I have two glass fish that are not painted and there awesome. They chase each other around all day and like cheese said, they are very gracefull. Nothing wrong with buying non painted glass fish.

Nope they color there outlines of there bodies. The two that I have that are not injected are very cool and they are the most active fish in my tank. Im going to get two more so I have four. Then they will have a blast because it looks like they might be a schooling fish.

EW TO DYING!! its so gross.. whats the point?? you might as well buy fish toys from the toy store in any color you want

There are fish available in any color you could imagine and some that you couldn't. I don't understand why anyone would knowingly buy paint injected fish. I like the natural glass fish compared to the "painted" ones. I only rarely see glass fish unpainted.

I saw some of the painted glassfish today, I think they would've looked a lot nicer without the bright pinks.

Also, what do you think about the zebra danios that are injected with the stuff that makes them glow under a black light. My brother saw some and wants me to get some for when I have the 30 gallon going, he's going to end a little dissapointed.

Those danios you're talking about, diVer, called "Glo-Fish", are not injected with dye. They are genetically altered to glow (i.e. the fish are born that way).

The way I see the whole injecting issue (whether into eggs or into living creatures) is how would people like it done to them. Would you like someone to randomly inject your unborn child with genes to make them glow in the dark? We don't know how these genes affect the danios. Do they cause cancer? We don't know, we have some scientists saying "They are perfectly fine" but they used to say that PCBs were fine too. The Hudson River near where I live is filled with PCBs that were dumped by GE and now there are much higher rates of cancer along the river and we aren't allowed to eat the fish from the river.

If you injected a dog or a human with genes to make them glow it would be considered animal cruelty or assault at the least. With fish it is somehow fine because they are a "lower"form of life. The fish don't have a choice in the matter at least when people get tattoos they get to choose them.
