Hi,

You say you dont run a protein skimmer, but dont you need this to take some of the protein out?
Or do you use one of those bags (not sure what there called!) that they use with the Interpet tanks!

How often do you clean your sponge / tank?

I don't run a protein skimmer as I have a Goniporia, and they do better in tanks which don't run them, I do weekly 20% water changes.

I add phytoplankton every other day too, and a protein skimmer takes out the goodness in this, I found myself turning skimmer on and off all the time so decided to run without it and I don't have any problems at the moment I also turn off the UV filter for a few hours after adding phytoplankton.

I clean carbon sponge once a month, just rinse it under tap water. The tank is cleaned when I do water changes with the Mag float, although I tend to leave one side as the snails do a good job munching the algae there
