Tips For Growing Hc

What is your opinion about glosso? Everywhere I read, it was indicated that this was not a plant for beginners. This is intimidating to me, especially after my experience with HC. Do you think I should take another chance with HC, or try glosso or just go with dwarf hairgrass, since the latter seems to be easier to grow/maintain.

@mdwheeler: I am going to try your trick to see bubble production by my plants. Thanks for this tip.

@RadaR: Thanks, this sounds reassuring, because I like glosso's looks better :D. Have you tried growing it yourself? If yes, what was your setting like?

No mate, I haven't. I've tried HC though, and it was no problem for me. Back then I didn't know half of what I know now! See here.
With your set up, you will have no problem growing it (glosso).

A single word describes my state: envy  . You created wonders without knowing what you know now!

I noticed that you had 46W of lighting for that 5.5 gallon tank! What was you light period like, if you can remember? I increased my Excel dosing from 1 ml every other day to 2 ml everyday, in addition to daily EI ferts. This is how my HC experience shaped up within 3-4 weeks. Started like this:

Ended like this:

Mind you, the light is 2x brighter in the first picture, but you can still see how unhealthy those HC bunches look in the second picture. The foreground is actually a little more naked now, since I took of some of the dead bunches today.

None of my ghost shrimps survived for more than a week either, I can't help wondering if there is something in my tap water (heavy metals, etc.) that really upsets HC and shrimps both.

I believe I was very lucky that the tank did so well.
I think that lighting was more than it should have been, 9 hours.
