So far what I have on my list to get is
1x Deep Six Hydrometer
1x Marine Lab - Complete Saltwater Test Kit
2x Model 301 - output 174 gph, up to 30 gallons
1x Penguin Bio-Wheel Power Filter 330 gph
1x Synthetic Sea Salt - 50 Gallon Bag
1x Visi-Jet Protein Skimmer

Making a Fish/Live Rock Tank.

Going to get 50 pounds of Live rock cause at 50 pounds its 3.99$ a pound vs 5.99 else. and then 60 pounds of live sand.

Does all this look ok?

Also which light should I get?, there is
50/50
Trichromatic
1000K
2000K
Actinic

and in the Penguin Bio-Wheel should I take the bio-wheels and sponge, and baskets off? Cause i herd other people say the LR does the filtering for you?

If not, is there anything I should put in the baskets like Active Carbon or anything?

Any tips would be apreated as well, new at this and I am ordering all this in the morning so I need to make sure I am getting everything I need.

i would get a mechanical filter. u should have 40 - 50 pounds of live rock, and ur live rock is supper cheap, mine costs alot of crap! sry forgot what lighting i use :p so im not much help in that area. do not skip on the cleaning crew, such as blue hermits, arrow crabs, coral banded shrimp, pepermints shrimp, funnel snails, orange linkia stars, and stuff like that. u also need some dechlorinater. make sure ur tank is colorful if not the fish will begin to fade. u will want to have a quarintine tank. hope that helps u

There are a few things i would change. I would get the live rock. you won'y need the biowheel filters. get a couple of powerheads such as maxijets 1200S as these are small but powerfull. I would get a small external filter to put carbon/rowaphos in. as for lighting, if you want a reef, then i would go for 2 50/50's 1 10,00K and 1 actinic but you could have 2 10,000K's if you want. as for the powerheads. put them on the back glass and position them on the back glass and face the jets so that they will hit the front of the tank at the same spot to create turbulence NOT flow. deep six hydrometers are OK but one of the glass floating type would be more accurate or even a refractometer depending on how far you want to go. I have never heard of a visi-jet skimmer which could be OK but a cpr backpack would be a better choice or even better, an mc500 from deltec. As lionfish said, you will need some water but I would tend to go for RO water if you can or at least DI as tap water contains a lot of nasties.

P.S. if you mean a fish only
Making a Fish/Live Rock Tank.

then you wont need all the lighting, one 10,00K and one actinic will be fine. remember though, don't have your lights on when maturing the tank and don't add any fish for at least 6 weeks.

and oh yeah, as lionfish said, get a good crew in up crew in

good luck :)

Ok; I have all the chemicals, cause I have a 135 Gallon Fresh Water; as for TAP water all the water in my house runs through a huge ass filter system we have in the basement its like pure spring water or as close as you can get to the cleanest water without buying it :p

I am not sure if it has 2 lights in the hood or not, I will have to check, if it doesn't should I get a 50/50, i believe it is Actinic Blue and 6.5k.

when I said live rock/fish only, I ment both, I am not doing a coral tank.

so if I got this correct;

#1) Fix the water correctly :p
#2) Mix Instant Ocean to get the stuff salty
#3) Put my 60 pounds of Live Sand in
#4) Then put the water in
#5) Then the same day put my 50 pounds of Live Rock In
#6) DON'T put the protin skimmer on for 6 weeks? (cause we want the live rock to do its thing and the skimmer will just hinder that)

#7) After about 6 weeks, add a cleaning crew
#8) Add my Fish :p

nearly,

put the water in and get it salted and heated and get the pumps and filters working. then put the live rock in and then put the live sand in a couple of days after filling. then leave it for 3-4 weeks and put the skimmer on. test your water and if ammonia and nitrite are 0, ten you can put your hermits ans shrimps and snails in. then after about 6-8 weeks, put your lights on andyou can add fish. :)

Okie gotcha,
will the 1 50/50 work?

It only has a spot for 1 light, else I will have to make my self a custom hood, which I really don't want to do.

I got 2 tank a 29 Gallon, and 29 Gallon Long.

I can get a Pengiun 330 Pro for 19.99 (I could remove the wheels and filter media's).
or I was told if you have 1-2pds of Live Rock you don't need a filter of any kind just power heads to keep the water moving?

50 pounds will be 1.7 pounds per Gallon.

I am just trying to double check to make sure I buy everything at one time, except for the live rock and sand (going to get that locally).

Also 78 Degree? I believe that is what I read.

LOL. First I'll start by wishing you luck. Anyone who was bit enough by the fish bug to have a 135gal freshwater is going to have to pratice great restraint keeping a saltwater at 29gals. I see a 135gal reef in your future... :D

For a 29gal I agree wuth Ste2 on the canister filter. A small one that would run without media most times returning in a corner of the tank, and an additional powerhead to help with circulation.

Lighting is what I consilder all important for a marine tank. If you are not going to grow corals, lighting in the 6500k to 10,000k range will work well. Actinics are only beneficial for coral health, although some do like the blue color. You should really try to get at least 120 watts, preferably more to make things happen. Avoiding the lighting issue and trying to make do with what one has has created more headaches than any other hardware issue in the marine world.
