Another question. The medicine(fungus clear) did great on all but my one tinfoil fish. He still looks awful. His tail is just falling apart and there's the boney parts sticking out of his tail and now some of them are falling off. His left eye was hazy and now it has a white scab lookin piece over his whole eye and pieces are falling off his eye. I dont know what to do with him. His mate is looking great. But he looks so bad. Tomarrow will be the last day of my second dose of the fungus medicine. Could his disease maybe be internally?
I went to my local pet store and the only thing he carries now is coppersafe, and jungle fungus clear tank buddie tablets! He no longer carries maracyn ,maracyn 2 or melifix. He said he prefers the jungle fungus clear over maracyn. So now i am not sure what to do. He did have tetra medicated flake food. But thats about it.
My husband is afraid the sick fish will reinfect my other fish. He wants me to take him out and let him die. I just cant do that. Plus he's way too big to flush. I couldnt do that to him anyway. I am just not sure where to go from here :(

He doesn't sound well :(

Can you not isolate him - quarentine tank?

Well i HAD a 10 gallon tank but my son took a wooden hammer to the side and cracked it pretty good. I have a 5 gallon bucket that i use to clean my aquariums with and an air stone & aquarium pump. Will that be ok?
Is there something special that i should give him?

The bucket may be of if its food grade plastic im not sure if bukets are??

I said it once and i will say it again melafix would work wonders i have seen it bring fish back from the brink of death.

an internal problem doesnt sound likely to me as all the signs you have desribed seem to be outward but i cat remember all the details in your other post to be sure.

Glad to see flushing isnt am option its anin humane way to kill a sick fish, and you shouldnt relly dispose of dead fish that way either.

if you do a search on the forum there is an entire topic devoted to the disposal of dead fish and also one on euthinasia if the worst comes to the worst

I cant find melifix. The only petshop around here only carries fungus clear and coppersafe. Thats why i am at a loss of what else to possibly do for this fish. I would never flush it, even if it was an option. He is 8 inches long and 4 inches wide. It would be a tight fit.
I just want to know what steps i should take now to get him better.
The next closest petshop is an hour drive. So i may call and see if they have Melifix before i go there. That seems to be my only option at this time.'

Thanks
:)

You can make your own "melafix". Go to your chemist/drug store and get pure tea tree oil (melaleuca). Mix at 2% with distilled water. Dirt cheap too! Dose at approx 5ml per gallon tankwater. Mac.

try octozin, i've used this treatment succesfuly before,

Awesome. My neighbors are Amish and they have an amish store with an herb and medicine shop. I have saw the pure tea tree oil in there. I will try that. If i add it to the whole tank will it harm my other fish? And do i just add the 1 dose of 5ml per gallon?

yes you can use it in the tank but take out carbon from filters if its used
it tells you what dose to use
