Time Waisting But Oh So Entertaining

I will hopefully be at your stage soon as my cycle is well on the way. Can't wait. First thing i am gonna do is look into getting some bottom feeders. Love the way they move, and you have lovely soft sand for them so that could be an option for you?

thank you Longshlong and Kitty_Nin :good:

1 of 4 I have decided to call bubbles  he or she gets a fix out of playing in one of the air coloums coming from an air stone its quite amusing to watch  so Bubbles likes to swim at close to light speed at the top of the tank then starts a dive that not even a Stukha could pull off , diving into the bubble stream and pulling out at the very last second :good:

3 of 4 I think is watching this and fancy's a go but maybe he or she is not that brave. 3of 4 has done the run up but chickens out at the last second  I have observed this 5 times now and makes me laugh every time 2 and 4 of 4 seem to not want a thing to do with it all  .

Mind you if I ate as much as 2 eats well I do not think I would be in any shape to do it

Done a 30 % water change ? all my readings were okay I just wanted to do something cant hurt can it ?

You can tell the sex of your danios if they are mature. The females tend to be more rounded and bigger and thier pale stripe will be a greyish colour. The males are slimmer and also have a brighter colouration and yellow stripes which is very noticible on the bottom underfin.

They should breed easily - I have had lots of fry hatch but I dont bother to remove them and they get eaten. You will know when they are breeding the male will chase the female incessantly and she will dive about under rocks and in plants. They are egg scatterers - she will scatter the eggs and he will swim over and fertilize them. When the eggs hatch you see fry sticking to the sides of your tank (they look like 3mm black lines).

Fantastic stuff 'dave' :D

As a newbie myself who has just started my fishless cycling tonight I thought this was an entertaining read and I'm sure I'll feel exactly the same as you in hopefully a few weeks time.

I think if Chanel 4 saw your OP they could well make a soap opera out of it and I for one would be hooked :good:

thank you Rubyuk and Gilli :good:

the 4 will become 6 today as I am of to my LFS to get another 2 Zebra Danios. I wonder how Bubbles and the other 3 will take to a couple more buddy's ? well I hope

Enter another character my cat Sandy is her name well she is actually a kitten 20 weeks old now . Bless her she is glued to the tank as well I think she thinks if she paws the tank enough she will get through .

I jest but she is very um helpful whilst I do my water changes and tests getting in the way

Well I will get back with how things go with the introduction of 5 and 6 of 6

A change of tack ?????????

Went to my LFS today intending to get another 2 Zebra Danio to add to the 4 I already have but I walked out without them

I started chatting with one of the staff in the shop just a general chat to start with eventually he asked me

"what sort of tank do you want ? "

I answered "a community tank"

He said do you have a favourite fish you really want to keep ?"

I must admit I adore Discus I told him that he started asking me about my Tank and told me I could keep them but started telling me about how they are very fussy and the things I would need to change water quality , flow of water and alike one thing is for sure I need to drop the PH level of my water currently 8.1. along with other things.

Brought 50 litres of RO water to start dropping My PH will pick some more up next week and do another water change.

The unfortunate thing is my 4 zebra Danios will have to go "I will find a good home for them when the time comes" :good:

so there it is I know Discus are really hard to keep but I know I can show them the dedication they need and deserve :good:

Lots to learn and things to do time is something I have so the journey begins for the first time since I started keeping a tank (apart from how to keep basic water stats from fishless cycling) I have a clear direction instead of just thinking add some appropriate fish here keep the water , tank and bacteria there

I have started trawling this forum and the internet on keeping Discus but if anyone who reads this post has any useful advise or links on education to keeping discus then please please share :good:

Thanks Ian .
