One of the tiger shrimp pippoodle sent me has developed a really really dark black/blue colouration across the entirety of its body and has a really vivid orange stripe on its back. Kind find any shrimp species that resemble it and it seems way too vivid a colouration to be from a first gen hybrid or a throwback gene. I was unable to get a pic of it as it was camera shy and I was in a rush I will try again tomorrow just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or whether pippoodle has some more similar. I realise that their colour can change with what they consume but the colours didn't resemble their food

Pretty sure pip said there were some blue tigers in that mixed tank, I'd guess its one of those.

True but a blue tiger looks like this whilst mine is a lot darker and has a bright orange stripe it is near black if not an actual black.

Any chance of a picture? Idle curiosity more than anything :)

Blues can be pretty variable by all accounts, I'm no expert though.

I will take a pic as soon as possible atm he is eating in the christmas moss so not very clear but here are a couple anyway:

oh, amazing! That shrimp looks really cool! I would actually appreciate the mistake because that looks wayyyy better than a tiger shrimp. your so lucky! :good:

srry i cant ID it, my guess is a wierd hybrid maybe? Of course, you might not wana trust me, haha!

*EDIT*
WAIT, i think i might of found out what it may be. Do you think it could be a black tiger shrimp? look at this link! CLICK ME i might be off but what makes me think it looks like one is because of the orange eyes and the black body. Not sure why there is an orange stripe there but for some reason, some green shrimp i bought produced a red stripe on its back while adapting to my tank a few days ago.

id imagine a cross breed. perhaps between a tiger and a cherry. but it may even be something else it was bred with.

cherrys and tigers cant cross

i think it might be one of the Caridina babaulti "black" (thats what they were labelled as) that has sneaked in ther

they are black with an orange or blue stripe down the back - quite hard to get hold of the black ones - i think a young one must have sneaked in with the tigers and cherrys

It is absolutely gorgeous little guy/girl they were all near completely colourless when they arrived so it must have snuck in for sure. On a minor note a quite a few of the cherries you sent have died behind the filter sponge which is a bugger to get to of course , I can't figure out why. Water stats are spot on the tiger shrimp seem fine as well as the Amanos and the betta is bubble nesting with the endlers and guppies spawning once a week like clockwork, strangely enough 4 of the babies from their spawns have not been eaten and are starting to colour up. If they are males I am keeping them but if they are females I will probably feed them to the goldies or cull them but I am surprised as every other spawn has been actively hunted by the betta to death whilst he seems to sparing the newest spawn and 4 of the last one or one before I don't keep track.
