Went in to my LFs yesterday and saw these platys which were yellow. the males had orange stripes they looked very nice. has any body else seen these type of platys

i am going in today to buy 5 females and a male. :good:

yes i have, they come with either a cream or white base, whites are rarer but worth getting hold of some to start breeding these but there are very few females being released by the breeder. heres one of my males.

As from my pm mate. yes these look like the platys, dont worry mate ill just have to double my order to add some for you

LOL

they were documented in november 2006 but no info has been released to whether the females have these markings (obviously a secret) but by rights they should have, if not and these fish are kept seperate from other males their female fry will be genotypes of this strain, if they havent got the stripes, ive already crossed one with a pure white female and 3 cream twinbars as these are the actual base colours of the fish, but was not successful as my mate killed the fry whilst i was on holiday, all fry were clear with very slight red spots so it looked promising and just waiting for next drops, would be great to get hold of any females that do have the stripes but i wont hold my breath. its defo one thing that im seriously setting up so alot more people can house this strain and keep it going.

This platy is basic know better as a bleading heart platy and I did have quite a few but sold them all about a month back

p.s. these have been in the specialist field for around 12 years from when i first had them. stunning fish though and worth keeping.
Also the males have more colour than this female and they get more colour the older the fish gets..

cheers helter, :good:
so the female defo have the stripes? looked everywhere but only found one site that told little and as i now know was incorrect, see it helps loads being on this forum, so if theyve been around for 12 years why aint they seen in LFS so often? never knew they were called bleeding hearts, prefer that name to tigers.

Dave McAlister has been keepign this line going for many years and I'm planning on a day trip soon if you fancy going to northhants.

I split mine into two lots and sold at auction so i know at least 2 lots going somewhere but i dont know who got them.

I had 2 of these .. would have got more but the shop has now sold out.

They were pure white with dark red stripes.. no offense but they looked even better than those posted above :) shame they passed away before they got old enough to reproduce.

Also, I only got 2 as they were ALL males, so I hoped one would change as they were still only young.

Best bet now is to get about 8 and hope that some revert to females at a young age.

sadily they cant revert, they are always either male or female. Thus will never change, what i guess ur thinking if that young fish look like females and then devlop male features when maturing

If I may ask, are those platy's dyed? I'm just wondering because the stripes sure do look like they were dyed into the fish.

The striations are not ink. They are genetic, passed down from generation to generation. That's not to say that people don't tattoo fish. Tiger Platies, also known as Bleeding Heart Platies are not inked.

Ah, I see now. Thanks for clearing that up for me! :good: And they really are beautiful fish! :hyper:
