the flagtail if a top fish my tank wouldnt be as clean without one they eat all the little bit of food the other fish miss and clean every inch of the tank glass

much better than any pleco for the algae

one thing i would say is you have to be a bit carful with them with rays some suck on the rays some dont

i have had 4 in total 2 sucked on the rays 2 never

one of the ones that sucked on the rays they got pissed off with and cloacked him and sucked out both of the flagtails eyes

i would recomend a flagtail for any tank they are great my kids love it they call it the kissing fish as they are always sucking the tank glass cleaning they never stop working

On the slime sucking my flagtail has just recently started to do this to my largest female motoro, she has a few bite marks from the male trying his luck and the flag tail found the little sore patches irresistable so for now its been moved to another tank, i'll try and put it back in a few months and if it starts it again it will be off back to the shop.

They produce no where near as much waste as any plec, they are really great fish, it just the ray sucking thats bad news.

they are fairly slow growing i would say a 12inch flagtail is 3-4yrs old

when i had the uaru.f after feeding the flag tail would hang around them waiting for them to crap then hoover it up

its the luck of the draw with them sucking on rays but a happy healthy ray wont stay their and get sucked to death

the ray will normaly swim off as soon as the flagtail suck on them but if the flag tail get the taste for ray slim they never leave the rays alone just keep and eye on then

its easy to spot if they are sucking on the ray as they will have kiss marks on the disk

the largest flag tail i have seen is the one i have @12inch i have been told they can grow to 16inch but i have never even seen pics of one that size

they are a bit skittish so i would say no smaller than a 4ft to start but they take at least 3yrs to get to 12inch

ok cool and do they go well with new world cichlids and silver dollars as ive seen some of them at wharf aquatics for sale. They are only about an inch long. ?

they are very peaseful to other fish but dont buy more than one as i have hurd and seen them kill each other off one buy one when they get to about 6inch

some people do have luck with more than one but its to risky if you ask me
