Tiger Barbs

I wish I could keep them in the 55g, but they're just too nasty with the tetras. Tetras were there first, so they win.

Pleco and guppies have a nice new home in a 75g with other guppies, neons and 2 dwarf cory (and yes, I did advise getting some more cory!).

I guess your Tetras are just too tempting a target with their flowing fins. So far I've been lucky and my Tigers are well behaved. I'm pleasantly surprised mine don't mess with my Tetras.

Yes, as I'd said my last batch of tigers was just a dream and I still miss them. These new guys are really holy terrors and I just can't put them with anything else. I'm hoping my LFS will do a trade, them for maybe some serpae and Von Rios. I'd love to get those numbers back up again.

It's very sad that you lost your last batch. I hope your LFS will do the right thing. One of the reasons I like the Serpaes is they look like they have mohawks!

My serpaes and von Rios are from the very first batch of fish I got a year ago, surviving my noobiness and the power outage, so I have a special fondness for them.

About a month ago I got 9 tiger barbs to liven up my 55g. See my sig for their tankmates. The last few days they've started after my longfin black skirt tetras, nipping at their fins.

I know about barbs, but the last group I had just kept to themselves and I never had a problem. These guys are not so sweet.

My options are:

Take my female guppies out of their 15g tall tank and put them in the 55g, then put the barbs in the 15g.

Put my male guppies from the 29g tall tank in the 55g, and put the barbs in the 29g with ghost shrimp and cory?

My husband has a 20g with about 14 albino cory and 8 or so tiny male endlers (not fancy tailed), and also a 55g with his JDs and firemouth cichlids.

Halp. Please.
Take the black skirt out! I had a tiger bard kill one of my hi-fin white skirts! Ate all of his fins off! ( I rehomed the tiger out of respect for the other tank members)

I am very impressed with that time span. :good: The best I have accomplished is only 6 months. But I'm trying my best and have probably spent more money on my aquarium than my wife! The next gadget I have my eye on is the Seneye.

Electric companies are one thing I refuse to switch. Much too important. I don't care if company X is half price, my power is on and if it goes out, it's restored very soon. Now we don't get the ice you do so this rule wouldn't apply in your area. :D

We don't have a choice with electric companies ... we have only one. Our power goes out in a good breeze here. I just don't know why the heater didn't go back on when the power did, but there was probably some kind of spike and burned it out.

I wish someone would come up with an under-substrate filter that would stay at the temperature one sets it without having to stick both my hands in the tank and then try to set the unreliable glass-enclosed dinosaur. I may have to look into making my own. I mean, you can set a regular heater at 78º but that's just a shot in the dark, right? It doesn't STAY at 78º! It all depends on the air temperature in the room. So why not develop a mat that lies underneath your sand or gravel, similar to an underfloor heating system for your bathroom? The thermostat would be outside the aquarium so you could easily adjust it in a second and keep your hands dry in the process?

I kept a pair of leopard geckos for 15 years and pet shops sell heating pads for reptiles. You might be able to set your aquarium on top of a couple of those. Need to find a good number of strong guys to lift the aquarium!

Hmm, not that I'd EVER lift a full aquarium, but you've given me an idea.
