are there fish you should never put with tiger barbs ? :/

Not so much fish you should never put with them, but more a point about the number of tiger barbs with whatever fish you want to put them with.

As you may or may not be aware, Tiger Barbs are notorious fin nippers. If you put 2 TB's in with a shoal of 16 Tetras, they are going to chase and nip them. However, if you put 2 Tetras with a shoal of 16 TB's the theory is that the TB's will be preoccupied with checking on where the other TB's are. Realisticly i hope nobody puts that many TB's with that many Tetras anyway, but its an example.

Providing there are enough TB's to keep each other in check (7+, i prefere 9+), then you should be ok keeping them with most fish. There are exceptions, like perhaps shrimp arent advisable, or harlequin rasboras because of their size. Betta's are probably a bad choice due to their long finnage.

Be sensible with stocking and TB's are very fun fish to keep. I wish i didnt have to let mine go, but other fish were a higher priority to keep.

Where are my manners. First post for you :yahoo:

:hi: to the forum

welcome to the forum

they are lovely fish and do quite large when fully grown

they do seem to stay in a little shoal when kept in numbers which they should be kept in as Verminator stated

I wouldn;t keep them with angels and siamese fighters as the fins would be nipped at

hi and welcome , slow moving long finned fish are probably best avoided , but as verminator says if you keep a big enough group tiger barbs are usually not too much trouble .

The general advice is as above. Example would be Angels, Guppie and Bettas. I have 12 tiger barbs who was there first. I then added 3+3 bosemani rainbows. They still nip their fins but only for the first 24 hours. I supposed only to show them who is boss. 3 months down the line, no problem.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I have 6 green tiger barbs and 7 tiger barbs but still they nip at my blue acara's tail fin, i still love them though. As for my blue acara he will soon be in his new home.

Keith.

Can someone familiar with their mating habits walk me through please? I have 3 (down from 6) and all day today two of them are sitting near the top of the water and sort of vibrating. Sick or just looking for love?
