Will tiger barbs eat my plants? I was reading up on them and it says in the wild they usually feed on vegetable matter, so I was wondering if they might eat my plants? Would like to have 6 or 7 of them after a while.

Also would they attack any corys or neons, would like to have groups of them too.

Cheers. :)

hi there,
we have tigers in with corys & neons & a few other fish & they never never bother anything else at all, just have 'tifs' amongst themselves (nose to nose spinning dominance fights).they'll be fine. just keep them away from any long finned fish as its just too tempting for naughty tigers to nip at those lovely long flowing fins (gouramis, bettas etc)
they do nibble at plants but not to the point of it being a problem...our tank is full of real plant. they love lettuce & zucchini(cougette in uk)& peas & if you give them some of them every now & again its usually enough to stop them munching your prized plants. ( to give them pour boiling water over the veg leave for a few mins - it softens it for them & then you can attatch it to a clip with a suction cup inside your tank or just wedge the lettuce end under something like a rock)
tigers are fantastic characters....we'd get loads more if only we had room. but it is a good idea to get at least 6 as they are far less likely to annoy other tankmates when in this amount :D

I have about 12 tiger barbs in with a group of neon and glow-lite tetras and they are fine. The first day i put the neons in the barbs nipped the tails of a couple but they haven't paid any interest in them since.

I also have a ton of live plants. They never touch them

A shoal of 4-10 tigers (prefferably 6+) will be fine in most community settings. Apparently there have to be enough tigers so that they don't get bored with themselves and start picking on other fish.

Sounds like a good setup. GL

every once in a full moon they might nip at the plants
and yes you can put them in with some neons  I had five tiger barbs and
two koolaid barbs and about seven black neons they just swim arownd
in the tank together. 8)
