hi i have an empty 29 gallon tank and i would love to put tiger barbs in it. i want variety of regular, green and albino. any ideas for amounts of barbs andn other tankmates? i know you can put corys and gouramis. what else?

anyone have an ideal tiger barb setup with tankmates and amounts of fish that i can use?

thankyou.

Look at my signature below...they all go nicely with the tigerbarbs (just note that the barbs are kept in a nice big group so they dont go near any of the other fish!!)

what would you put in a 29 gallon including numbers and fish?

Is that US Gallon or Imperial?

If its US gallon you can definately fit the 7 barbs I have, 1 Gourami, and maybe three of the mollys/platys/swordtails that I have listed below.

Thats just a rough ball park figure...You could possibly add more but I'll let someone else who actually knows to tell you :)

If its imperial...then you can fit more in...

not a fan of the mollys/platys/swordtails.

im thinking 12 tbs, gourami, and maybe 4 corys. what do you guys think?

Depends on the size of the tank, 29 gallon means nothing if we dont know if its US or Imperial your talking about...the 29g in US terms is about 110L while in imperial terms its 132L. 22L difference can mean having more fish or less fish.

I think the fish numbers you mentioned would be good in the 132L. Not sure if its suitable in a 110L if thats the size of your tank.

I think you definitely have enough room for the corys and the amount of barbs you want. A shoal of barbs that big would look pretty awesome.

As for the gourami, what type do you plan on getting?

I would say 10 TBs and a small cory species, maybe Pandas. I wouldn't put any gouramis in because of the feelers. You don't want the TBs nipping them.

i have kept tiger barbs with gouramis. First i tried dwarf gouramis (Colisa lalia) and they were much too timid to be with tiger barbs. But when i got 3 spot gouramis (Trichogaster trichopterus) it worked out great because both species are considered semi aggressive. The problem with getting 3 spots if u want more than one gourami, is that u need a one male to 2 femal ratio because other wise there will be a lot of chasing for that one female.
