Hi all i have 6 tiger barbs one seems to have a case of down head syndrome but the others seem ok. i read on this site it usualy meens over feeding or high nitrite levels. if the others are ok i would asume it cant be high nitrite, would i be right in asuming this and assuming that she may have just eaten more than the others and has a tummy ache. i call her a she because this fish is duller in colour than the rest dont know if thats right or not.

I had one doing the same after being active for a week - hid in it's cave and never came out unless chased - not even to eat! I don't know what caused it (i am new to all this!) but i cut back on food and did a water change and he/she is back to normal swimming with the shoal and looking for food.

Could be crap water quality as the tanks only 2 weeks old with the tigers in :X - so am doing regular water changes to keep on top of it. Plus is one book i have it mentioned "head standing" as an early sign of Nitrate poisoning -_-

I'm sure someone with more experience will offer better advice - but i thought i would chip in with my experience

All the best

Mike

My females tend to do this when they want to be left alone...
