I can't decide whether to make my spare 3 ft tank a plec tank or if i should keep my Tiger Barbs i have at the moments and see what other fish i can get to go with them

Tiger barbs can go with other species of barbs, such as Rosy or Glass barbs, unfortunatly they are agressive so things like neon tetras, angelfish and gouramis are not a good idea, they may end up recieveing some ripped fins. Pictus catfish are great bottom dwelers, and can hold their own.

They were in a community tank but started being to aggressive so put them in a seperate one.

I have four at the moment.

could i keep cherry barbs with them???

Anything else besides barbs

TBs are a community fish if you can
1) keep them in a large group (8 or more)
2) keep them in a tank suitable for the group (long and wide would help)
3) they are kept in the correct water conditions

if you can do all the above they are a great community fish
if not, don't get them

i have 2 tiger barbs and 2 green tiger barbs in my community aquarium, and it also has neon and flame tetras. 1 platy and 5 guppies. and they have never bothered any of my guppies which wud usually prone to fin nipping as they have large tails. every tail, fin etc is in perfect condition in all my fish. they swim with my guppies and never even chase them. the barbs generally chase each other sometimes but don't fight, so it really depends on the barbs themselves , sometimes can be aggressive or can be placid like mine. but they should be kept in 6 or more and albino barbs dont shoal with these.[you can keep cherry barbs with these but make sure they are npt too small compared to ones in there as they can be picked on

definately keeping it as a barb tank and think i will get a bottom dweller also

I had mine with a bunch of Harlequin Rasboras and the Rasboras did fine, the Tiger Barbs rarely nipped and when they did they usually got attacked back.

Get a couple of Gold Barbs, Dainos, you know; fish in the cyprinids category. ;) However since most of them prefer to do well in groups your gonna have to make some room in that tank of yours ^_^

i've got 10 TB in my 55g community that has both gourami and tetra, and have had no issues. Originally when there were only 4 there was more aggression. I'm leaning towards putting the gourami in another tank so i can add some Green TB's and maybe some rasbora as the TB's are becoming my favorites

i had a group of 8 with some a pair of bolivion rams and they did great together, the tank looked really nice.

I have a group of five with a pair of bolivian rams, 4 african butterfly cichlids, 6 gold barbs, 4 pictus cats, and a pleco. Everyone gets along fine in the 75 gal tank. The TB tend to stay near the top of the tank with the gold barbs, and the rest hang closer to the bottom, so there is activity all over the tank.
