ok i have a stupid question...
i have been rasing african chiclids for years..
but ijust got a new tank and have about 6 tiger barbs... they are very happy and schooling together in the tank and but last night they all got ina group and stood on their heads? they looked happy and today they are all swimming and happy...water temp isright ??? is this ok?

I've see this happen because of two different things in my tank. Tiger barbs some times go nose down as a result of poor water qualit, so check your ammonia and nitrites. I've also seen them go nose down after over eating, or while they are sleeping. Play it safe and check your water stats.

I have kept tiger barbs for a couple of years now and from my experience it is usually a sign of bad water quality. Check your water stats and make sure everything is in check.

One thing I have noticed is if I turn on my light in the morning they are often pointed down (not always though). I think they, or at least my barbs do, sleep in that position.

I have a planted tank(mess really), at night a while after i shut the lights to go to bed all my barbs do the exact same nose-pointed-down, as-still-as-could-be thing. This indicates to me that the pH of my water is gradually decreasing. You might have clean water, since the lights go off maybe the pH declines slightly. I hear tiger barbs are good indicator fish for observing pH.
