Hi, I am purchasing a 55 gallon set up next month, and I want to add some tiger barbs. I also want some kind of pleco, probably a bristlenose. What other tank mates should I add and how many tiger barbs can I have. I want it to be mostly tiger barbs, but i'd prefer another type of fish too, maybe to swim mid-level.

Hey ekizUCLA ....

In a 55gal tank you could have a nice school of 10-15 barbs. I'd mix it up a little and have green and albino colors in your school. Bristlenoses would be great for that tank and for mid-swimmers you could try a dwarf cichlid like Keyholes...but im sure there are plenty of options for you there. Hopei helped you out a little :D .

If you haven't checked it out already then maybe this can help you out a bit!

Do you think 12 barbs, 2 firemouths (preferably 1 male and 1 female) and 2 bristlenose pleco's would be overstocking?

hi, have a look at my signature too.........this is what we've had in with our tigers for nearly 2 years with no probs at all ( except for our rummy nose tetras which are a recent addition & the barbs act as though they dont exist as long as all their other tankmates!) just make sure you have at least 6 barbs so they'll be so busy with their own kind they wont bother any of your other fish :D
