I have a 20 gallon long tank tank. Right now its going through its fishless cycle. I want to put barbs and yoyo loaches in it. I want to tiger, albino, and green barbs. How many barbs would fit and how many of each colors? I also want some yoyo loaches. How many of them. These are the fish i want so now i have to figure out how many i can do. Thank you for any help.

I am not sure how many litres is in a 20g tank so I can't comment on how many fish you can keep in total but make sure you keep the barbs in groups of 6 or more they are semi-agressive fish and you will have problem with fin nipping and barbs ganging up on each other. I learn't this through my own trial and errors ...

I didn't do enough research before I brought home my tiger and green barbs but I learnt quick smart

In some cases tiger, green and albino Barbs will school together but in other cases the different colours will only school with their own it totally depends on the fish so if your 20gal tank permitts it would be best to have at least 6 of each of colours (babrs) to save you problems with aggression.

Just check your 20gal tank could comfortably support 18 barbs.

hmm well I know you can keep round 15-18 Barbs in an 80Litre tank but that is without the loaches I am not too sure how big the loaches grow but I think I would have to agree with lilfishie on the 4 of each barbs and then 4 loaches and as lilfishise said you will defantly need a good filter and keep up with maitenence with that many fish in you tank :)

I love my Barbs and my partner wants to get some loaches so if you could show me some pic's when you have your tank set up that would be really great :)

What are the exact measurements of this 20gal tank? Its a bit on the small side for tiger barbs, so the measurements are very important to know.

Personally i wouldn't add yoyo loaches to the tank, they tend to fair much better in the cooler sub tropical tanks which are highly filtered, they would also be quite crampt in a 20gal as the minimum recommended number to keep them in is 5 and they can each grow to 6inches long each.

Hello. I changed my mind i am going to do my tiger barbs in a 29 gallon tank. The measuremnts for this tank are 30x12x18. So i was thinking 5 tiger, 5 albino, 5 green, and 3 to 4 clown loaches. I think the clown loaches would get along better. The yoyo loaches get a little bit bigger and are more territoral than clown loaches. I have a couple more weeks to cycle and then i will post a pic to let you know and see how this setup is going for me.

A 20 long and a 29 gallon have the same surface area, the 29 is just taller. Standard 20 longs and 29 are both roughly 30 inches long and 12 inches wide.
As long as the 20 long is 30 inches, I see no problem with a nice shoal of tiger barbs, probably around 7-8.
I wouldnt do the yoyo loaches, a group of corydoras would look nice.

if i were you i wouldn't put in any clown loaches. those guys get really big. i have a couple in my 29 right now and they are very very small maybe an inch right now, but i kno after they hit about 6 or 7 inches im gonna have to give them back to the store for a couple smaller fish.

in a 29 gallon tank u can have 6 of each barb and a few corys.

as long as u are good with ur water changes and u have a good filter,

might wanna look into some different fish, all barbs will leave the bottom of the tank pretty fishless. i'd only get 2 types of barbs and get 7 each and then get some 6 cory cats, they'll school around hte bottom of the tank and finish the left over food.

maybe get a bottom feeder type shark in there too, cuz they're tough and wont be botherd by the barbs

yoyos can also get BIG ive read of folks on this forum who have some 8 inches + ours are approx 6 inches long.
enjoy

a 20 gallon is too small for any loaches, seeing as they need to be kept in groups. perhaps a few khulis, but that'd be it :good:
