i am gonna get tiger barbs for my new 30 gallon tank can i get a red tailed shark in there aswell and what other types of fish go well with them?

yes and you can have tetras bettas puffers(dwarf puffers...the only type I kepted with them) plecos, cory's, catfish, just about anything.

I have the tiger barbs and when I was readjusting my tank today, one kept trying to bite me. Now, I know they have no teeth but you could really feel it. Weirdest feeling ever! Mine get along with all the reat of my kids...

i have tiger barbs in my tank with a redtail shark, they seem to do alright

yea they work pretty well...as u well know that some barbs move pretty dam fast and they are more aggresive. So dun really mix smaller fish or slow moving fish cause they'll harass them..believe me, i had 2 gold fish and a school of 3 tiger barbs..big mistake..they like nearly gangbanged them..haha...and the next morninng one of them was dead and the the other one hardly had a fin tail...

hi
tiger barbs are great fish BUT they like to be in a gang of at least 6 - it seems to mellow them & generally lessen any 'nipping' tendencies they may have. in a 6+ pack they'll spend all day mucking around with eachother & not bother any other fish. ( although i have read posts where occasionally even in a big gang they can cause probs to other fish)
i think ,in my experience & from reading heaps of other posts here on similar subjects keeping them away from any fish with pretty long flowing fins - bettas, gouramis etc (far too tempting for naughty barbs) is the safest bet.

ours are in with neons, cardinal tetras, red eye tetras, corys, yoyos, danios & shrimps & we've never seen them 'harrass' any of their tankmates ever. in fact ours are the 'scaredy cats of the tank' - freak out every clean/water change time (twitch twitch twitch ) & i always expect a round of heart attacks in them when i use the algae magnet they are absolutely terrified of the thing....have to move it ever so sloooowwwwly so they dont notice!!! but saying that even our scaredy barbs are full of mishief & fun & always playing about with the rest of their gang. i love them :D

I've read in a lot of places that they need to be in a group of 6. I have 5 Tiger Barbs in a 20 gallon tank. I tried adding new fish today and they were chasing the new fish around and fin nipping at them constantly. If I add just one more Tiger Barb would it make a difference?
