I have 7 barbs and 1 red tailed black shark in a 35 gallon. Right now it is funny because the shark will patrol his tank and find that one side is full of barbs. He will chase one of them about 2 inches before he see another. The barbs wont mind him there for a minute or two. Then the dominator of the barbs will slowly push him away. The shark is about 2 inches same as the barb. What conflict will occur as the shark grows and can push a little harder? :flex:

I used to consider tiger barbs "problem children" until I learned that they need a fairly large tank (proportionally) and a decent size grouping of their own kind. 35 gal. tank, 7 tigers, there should be enough room here and enough of their own to squabble with so that one is not getting the brunt of it. I have heard stories of aggressive RTS but my own personal experiences with them is that they pretty much mind their own business, however each one is an individual. Mine always seemed to appreciate hiding places, didn't use them all the time only occasionally. Hope this helps...

In my 55 gallon I have 1 Rainbow Shark that is growing pretty fast and 2 Rosy Barbs. The barbs are very fast but now the shark is getting fast also. He chases them around some but don’t munch on them (he breaks off the chase if he catches them). The shark is prolly around 3.5 to 4 inches and one of the Barbs is prob full grown. I don’t think the shark really causes them much of a problem - he shoots after them and they loose him with their agility. I put Bob (3.5 in pl*co) in that tank last week and the only time the shark bugs him is when Bob wanders into the shark’s actual cave and then the shark just lets him know to get out - the shark don’t chase the pl*co but he will go after the barbs anywhere in the tank but has no interest in hurting them.

I have only had that tank and those fish for about 6 weeks but my guess is - nothing much will change. All my fish act the very same as they did from day one. The biggest change is the size of the shark but his actions have not changed with his size.
