hi
one of our tiger barbs is causing me concern, she has taken to hiding in a cave or in deep foliage during the day. theres nothing obviously wrong with her - no signs of disease but i know its just not normal tiger b behaviour. at night when i put our moonlight on & then turn our lights out completely, shes out & about or parked up nose down sleeping as normal. shes not being bullied & actually is one of our original 6 pack of barbs & must be nearly 4 years old. shes eating fine just doesnt seem to like the bright tank lights - we have heaps of plants & caves & theres lots of dimmer places around in the tank & this is where she seems to prefer during the day.
should i be worried, i dont want to scoop her out & put her in our hosp tank when i cant actually see anything wrong as i know this will cause stress but id just like to know if im missing anything. all other barbs look healthy & happy & are swimming around madly causing chaos as barbs normally do, all other tank mates look healthy too & water params ok ie: t 24C, ph 7.8,nitrite 0,ammonia 0, nitrate20 ( always highish - london tap water). its a 4ft community tank 37uk gal, been up & running for over 3 years.
any help appreciated thanks ;)

Has she darkened in colour.

hi
yes she is a little darker & i did think of internal bacterial infection..what do you think??? i would rather treat the whole tank for something, i know this is not ideal but i know barbs get v stressed when scooped & stuck in a small hosp tank.

When they go darker it can be a sign of an internal bacteria infection, and with her not being herself i think I would medicate, good luck.

thanks i'll do that - ive got interpet internal bacteria med & esha 2000 so i'll try one of them now.
