Hey all, yesterday afternoon i had some tiger barbs spawn...as of now i can see 2 free swimmers already...i still see alot of eggs that havnt got fungi on them yet...should i leave those eggs? they are semi transparent with a little white spot inside it, i read that TB eggs hatch in about 30 hrs, but they wont free swim for 5 days? are these two just ahead of the curve?...any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!

Hi dcarmor927 :)

I'm going to move your thread over to the Cyprinids, Characins and Atherinids section. The chances of it being read by someone who specializes in barbs is greater than it would be in Tropical Discussion.

Good luck with raising your fry.

thanks, i thought it was more of a general egg question...

You want to use some methylene blue or malicate, these are an anti fungal treatment and help stop the spread of fungus from bad/dead eggs to good ones.

The eggs to hatch very quickly and then the larvae take a while to develop and use up they yolk sac this usually take 3 days once free swimming you then want to feed microscopic foods, ie micro eels, then by day 5 you should be able to get them on to newly hatched brine shrimp. Which you can feed all the way through. Also should feed grindel and white worms when they are large enough.

alright, thanks for the info! where can i get the anti fungal treatments? a LFS?

how much would i add for a 10 gallon tank?
