Tiger barb not doing so well

I did test my params when he got sick and my tank params are in the norms!

PH: 7.8
Ammonia: 0PPM
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 25PPM (Same as my source water)

So maybe they had some kind of illness at the pet store? I test my tank usually once a week as of right now since my tank is fairly new to being reset after my ich breakout and before and after adding my TB's the levels stayed around the same

the wafers Spike up the ammonia a little but by the time the algae eaters eat them, it's not a lot of wasted wafers :) and my live plants I think get ahold of said ammonia and make it go, poof...

anyways But Yeah I think the TB passed he's not breathing the other one is hiding I guess because he doesn't have any others like him to school with, probably going to return him and get some other less aggressive fish.

Really sorry this is happening, it's always frustrating when your little buddy is not doing well and there's nothing you can do. I felt the same way you did when I first started raising tiger barbs because they just die all the damn time, but now that I have a strong tank of healthy fish they are really enjoyable and I love them, don't give up hope yet!

I mean the pH implies the water is too hard, and depending how accurate your tests are the nitrate might be too high (though if that's the tap - that's not so simple to deal with in fairness).

But those sort of things are slow killers, a shortening of lifespan, like smoking for humans.

Main issue was probably aggression.

yeah not sure on COD but yeah, the Nitrates and PH is the same as my source water (Well water via hose since tap runs through softener)

call your water company and ask what the water hardness is..then report back

my water company? uhm I have well water... so would I call the well company... and the well is like 50 years old as per my well issues post in general (Non fish related) it's getting replaced soon. but they are very busy due to covid and not having very many people. it's also the only well company around and they are family run meaning only a few people.

I've just been reading all of your previous posts and I'm getting a sense of deja vu.
Are you certain that none of the advice and tips given back then apply now?

Yeah, I sense that too, and after what all you guys have said I've used some of your advice and it does work so I trust this forum with a few of you guys so far more than just "googling" and looking at say one site, etc!

my sick TB died, the other TB is perfectly fine, but I'm going to take him back because I don't want TB's if they are aggressive.

It's not so much that they are aggressive, it's that they need to be in sufficient numbers to reduce the chance of any aggression.
They have acquired a reputation as aggressive fin-nippers, but, 9 times out of 10, it is the fishkeeper's fault for keeping them in inadequate conditions. :(

gotcha, but for now until I can get my bigger tank I think I will get rid of my TB's because as much as they look cool but I do want other middle swimmers ;) and I think 10 TB's would put the tank near the limit.

Ive suffered another loss: clown pleco though i think his was hunger because i saw him constantly scrapping the glass ive only seem him on the ground a few times and my cae and common ate the wafers before my clown ever got off the glass to eat them, but it could've been stress from the tiger barbs? Idk maybe he was sick too im just jumping to conclusions!

But im going to stick with what you guys mention from now on since your advice is trustworthy and its worked for me so far :) anyways since i have algae eaters for now im going to save up some money for the LFS instead of the box store since it seems u care for them right but they get sick anyway? Like all my yank params are normal!

Whilst some cynics may scoff, it's unlikely you bought a poorly fish.
Plecos normal behaviour is to 'constantly scape the glass'...they feed off algae and biofilm that we can't always see.
That said, given that you had 3 so-called algae-eaters in the one tank, against advice, the sad outcome was a foregone conclusion. :(

wait so then I shouldn't get a bristlenose as was recommended in my good bottom feeders post?

or do they eat off the bottom too?

Biggest concern here is the CAE (you may not see it latch onto the other fish, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen)....and a common pleco in a 30G tank...not good, those things get huge
