Got 2 dp's in a 10gallon planted tank, unfortunately they ended up being a M + F combination, not great but totally manageable.

Noticed the other day that the female had a small thread like growth from her chin, just assumed it was an injury from the male when they bicker and steal food from each others mouths, but nearly a week on and it's still present. I've used Melafix for the last few days as a precaution, but it's not had any affect on it. The female itself is totally fine, eating well, active and still as full of personality than ever.

Should I be worried at all, starting to think it could be a parasite rather than any sort of injury, but cant see any sort of redness or inflammation on the chin. Or could it just be a random growth that's not gonna cause any kinda problems? I'll try and take some pics tonight, but the camera's not great, so dunno if it'll be clear enough or not

LOL that's a dream combination for some

Have you managed any pictures? Sorry I can't offer any help since I've not had such experience. But have you looked into a salt bath/dip treatment perhaps?

Hope it's nothing serious :)

Sorry for not replying - was away all wknd and still feeling bit rough today!

I'm not too sure about anchor worm, has anyone got any links to hand for it, else i'll have a seach tonight on it. The puffer seems totally fine, no sign of illness, or redness/sores at stem of it, but am still worried.

I'll try again tonight to get some pics up!

Just a quick update on this - the 'growth' has gone! All looks fine, puffer not in any distress at all, so just gonna keep an eye on it to make sure they don't call back!

Glad to hear that your puff's OK :)

sure it didnt just have a bloodworm stuck on its beak? lol

haha definately not a bloodworm - unless it had worked its way out through the dp's jaw! To be honest though I don't have much luck buying live bloodworm - seem to all die v quickly! Luckly the brineshrimp are better though!

Glad to hear that your puff's OK :)
Thanks :good:

Was it still eating ok when it had it?
