Thread Algea

One suggestion I have been given for the same problem is to change your lighting period. I've been told to add a rest time in the lighting. I've seen some improvement but I've only been doing it for 3 days. I have changed my lighting from 12 hours on to 3 hours on, a 3 hour break and then 7 hours on.

The Redfield Ratio May help as well. I'm just reading up on this one my self and Haven't tried it yet but I have been told great things about it. This site has a good explanation of the concept

Just been looking around on the tinternet at co2 systems and was wondering on which systems are best. I work away quite a bit so need a fairly low maintenance set but doesnt cost too much if thats possible (180 litre tank)
Is it possible to use a co2 fire extinguisher as i can get theses for the price of a drink from a chap at work if so what would i need to use them

www.flubenol.co.uk sell regulators, needle valves etc that can fit any generic CO2 bottle, they have good recommendations from this forum too I believe.

ooo co2 I'm watching this carefully i'm using diy right now and it's a bit of a pain. if I can get some cash together I'm going to do the pressurized system as well

I used it until fairly recently (in conjunction with diy co2) when I upgraded and moved to a pressurised system. Worked fine, plants grew fairly quickly, especially my stem plants and swords (I have a huge Echinodorus 'Rose' which grew v. quickly under approx 1.5wpg). Now I'm keeping the remaining bottle as a back up to battle BBA but hopefully with stable co2 I shouldn't need it.

Well i got back from hols doesnt seem to be any change to the algea (still there!) but quite a few of my plants have holes in thier leaves and gone a little yellow there doesnt seem to have been that much growth neither anybody got any ideas

Holes in the leaves and yellowness is a nutrient problem most probably relating to the lack of fertilisation.

I would guess at Potassium or Iron defficiency but I am no expert.
