Hello Everyone! I am currently in the process of cycling and planning my next 20-gallon tank. Currently, I am thinking about having 3 Glass Catfish, 4 Celestial Pearl Danios, and 3 Emerald Corydoras. I have had Glass Cats and Corydoras in a tank before so I know they are good tank mates. However, I have never had Danios before.

Thoughts on if they would be a good tank mate for the other two? Also, do you think that the amount of each fish type would be too many for a 20 gallon? TIA

Attached, is a picture of my Glass cat, Casper who is in the Glass Cat/Cory tank mentioned above (You can also see my betta partially in the picture).

What are the he dimensions of the tank in inches (LxWxH)

What is the GH and KH of your tap water? I don’t know much about glass cats, but I can tell you that the cory catfish and the celestial Pearl danios are shoaling species. They get their strength in numbers, and will be insecure and skittish without at
least a group of 6. I personally don’t feel like your tank dimensions provide enough space for a group of cory catfish, unless you got Pygmies. cories also do best on fine sand. It is gentle on their sensitive bellies, and also allows them to filter feed as they sift around for bits of food.

I would probably only do two of the three fish listed, but bring the number of each up to 6 or 7. All three species listed like shoals of that size or larger. If the tank doesn't seem crowded, then go from there on maybe adding a 3rd species.

That is of course if you have low gh/hardness.

Ah ok, so a 20 gallon tall... Like olive said this size limits you in what you can do... I personally have a 20 gallon high myself and decided on 3 peacock gudgeons with a school of lamb chop rasboras... (I don't have the rasboras yet). I also agree with circus to rid of one fish and bump the other numbers up on other groups... This will increase the living conditions of the fish...
whoops...completely forgot to state the dimensions. It is 24 in L x 12 in W x 16 in H

I had a feeling that having all 3 would probably be too much due to all 3 fish being better in numbers. I apologize I failed to mention the parameters of my tank. PH 7.4 GH 130ppm KH 80ppm currently. I apologize for the slow response. I am new and still trying to figure out how to reply and post.

Don't apologize. We've all been new here and should be able to understand technical troubles... You have soft water that is on the verge of going into hard water but still isn't hard water if that makes sense?

So your hardness fits for the glass cats, at least, and is probably good for the corycats. The Celestial Pearl Danio/Galaxy Rasbora can actually take fairly hard water, so you are good on that mark. I have glass cats and galaxy rasbora in a tank, and they work well together. Mine are also housed with pygmy cories and red cherry shrimp.

Yes, that makes sense to me. Honestly, I do not know a lot when it comes to testing KH and GH as it was something I only recently started testing. I never realized it was important when I first started. Before I only tested PH, Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrites. Although I have been at this for 2 years I am a slow learner and basically, everything I have learned has come from youtube and articles online due to not knowing any other fish keepers.

Gosh... I keep forgetting to do the quoted reply when replying. That is great to know about the Celestial Pearl Danio's!! I could not find much online about them and their required conditions. I will have to think about if I would rather have the cories or glass cats with celestial pearl Danio.

Glass cats do best by themselves, maybe with cory's. But I wouldn't put Danios in there. Glass cats are extremely temperamental to water quality, so you need to make sure you match like for like.
