I just had to download a government document on fish that need veterinary certification to be imported. It says why in each case =- what fish diseases they are documented as often carrying, based on laboratory analysis.
Thought of the day? Only one of those diseases is featured in general aquarium literature (viral septicemia), and all the others might as well not exist if we go by the info we have at hand, without laboratories.
It says a lot about how hit and miss our treatments are, and how little we can actually do when we buy infected fish. We're blindfolded, in the dark, throwing darts at mosquitoes once we get past the obvious parasites.
