Those big piston air pumps sure make a lot of heat…

The one outside, on my Tilapia grow out set up, gets exposed to outside ambient temperatures, of close to 100 degrees during the heat of the summer, to start with, that pump I had to use a longer outlet hose that was fiber reinforced, and actually use automotive type screw hose clamps on the ends, as I actually burst a silicone hose, and blew the ends off barbed fittings… the one in the house, that powers my main tank group, draws air conditioned air at a much lower temperature, and is 3 feet away from my gang valve, yet the gang valve gets hot enough, that I’m starting to have problems with the vinyl air lines that go to the tanks , at the gang valve, that is still hot to the touch… starting to think about cooling fins, and a section of hard line, or increasing the length of the larger diameter output hose, to try to cool the gang valve a little…

maybe even actually use a new aluminum cooler for oil / transmission???

similar to this...

Not sure if those pumps have an air filter but if they do, maybe clean it and see if it helps.

I used to port normal air pumps and it let them pump more air through, which kept them cooler but they made more noise. I just made the intake and outlet holes bigger and the holes in the air chamber were enlarged a bit. Even just making the intake hole bigger you will let more air in and help it run a bit cooler.

Maybe get a computer fan or aluminium heat sink to draw some heat off it.

I consider mine to be part of the room heating system. I use a very short length of reinforced tubing to go directly into hard pvc pipe, with the air outlets drilled into it. The reinforced tubing does get stained brown from heat, but a lot is dissipated as the pvc pipe runs for about 60 feet in total, in a loop. The loop is important, and closed pipe systems create back pressure, noise, heat and damage to pumps.

But it's still hot. Between the two linear piston pumps and the dehumidifier, the baseboard heaters don't even come on some winters.

@Ceez … I had bought a couple of these initially…

You don't find these noisy? I have two of those in reserve in case something breaks, as the WW 2 fighter plane sound gets to me. It may be the one you bought is higher quality though. My two are really loud. They kick air, but nothing I have tried quiets them. In my old house, I had them in my furnace room with a heavy door between it and the fishroom.

One is outside, and the other, between the rafters, on the foundation, and boxed in, with closed cell foam…
