So, when I got my boy Ula, there was about 5 others from his spawn still for sale at the store. My friend also bought one from the same spawn named D' Artagnan (from the three musketeers). I found out later (about 1.5 months later) that the store doesnt feed their bettas so they don't have to change their cups. At this time, all the fish were being sold in less than a week except for 3 of the bettas related to Ula. They were practically starved to death. So my friend and I started sneaking them food and then changing their cups every week. The bettas didn't die, but also didn't gain weight. Finally, we talked the store into giving them to us for free so we didn't have to watch them starve. Here are some pics of them, their brothers, and how skinny the poor things are. But they are so happy now! They LOVE their new homes!
Ula--their brother
D' Artagnan--also their brother
The newly rescued Aramis
The newly rescued Athos (and yes thats my finger right next to him to show how tiny he is!)
And Porthos neglected to pose for the camera, but he was the first to nix the stress stripes and start dancing for us.
And the betta rescue at my friend's house (--btw, all the small bowls will be upgraded to the 1.5 gal bowls come pay day!):
It's funny because my aunt actually has the last brother of the spawn at her house! We rescued the whole lot of them!
*Updated* All the fish have lost their stress stripes and their bellys are bulging with food!
Also, we went back and demanded we get the rest of the bettas too. Then we filed a complaint with the managers. And my friend who is working at the store said she would feed the bettas and watch after them if the manager of the fish department didnt.
