Melafix.

Right this morning i thought i would go and get some melafix for that discus with a cut eye to help it.
Well the discus seemed to be ok this morning swimming and eating as they do.
Then i added the right amount of melafix into the water and it looks like it is about to die. fins down and will not come out.
Could this be the melafix stinging its eye? Or is it dying. :-(

Please tell me quick.

Thanks

James

I took water into my lfs today and my water is fine.
Please help i dont want my discus to die.

i only have 4 hours before i go to bed and them more likely in the night the fish will die :-( So please hurry up and tell me what is up.

Thanks alot for your help though gaya.

I would do a water change. This certainly will not hurt the fish, and will give you the chance to see if it is the melafix. I don't have discus, but plenty of angels. When they pair up & breed, they can get pretty rough with each other, as well as other fish in the tank. Never had to use any meds, just plenty of fresh water, and they heal up just fine.

Figuring on the odd chance that the melafix may have an adverse effect on the fish may be a strech, but you never know. Animals have allergies just the same as humans, and discus are known to be more sensitive to water parameters.

yea, i agree with tolak. fresh water always seems to be the best thing for the fish and meds can do more damage then good. Sometimes i'll give my fish a salt dip if they're hurt but it depends on the type of fish and i don't know how well discus handle salt.

Its gills also are puffing out a bit. I did a water change yesterday it was a 50% one as well if i change any more it will be fresh water in the tank. But still shall i take out a few more jugs.

It is180l and i put 4and 1/2 caps of melafix in. If it is the melafix i will have to put in a carbon pad to clear it up.

I hope it does not come to this and i hope the fish does not die or £20 is lost.

I've done 50% w.c.'s daily on fry tanks, or tanks with ill fish, it is the best thing. If you change out half the water, you will cut the concentration of melafix by 50%. Since the change in the fishes behavior/health changed after adding the meds, I would suspect the meds. Water changes will remove it faster than carbon.

Yes i will it has survived 2 days now so i think it has a good chance of survival ;) i hope :-(

All medications reduce the oamount of oxygen that the water can hold.
Ensure that the tank is well aerated.

Good luck!
