i went to the fair a couple days ago and noticed that many of the kids were carrying around these little 4"x2" plastic containers with bettas in them. it wouldnt be so bad except so many kids were buying them, and since they are at the fair and want to stay there they end up running around carrying these poor fish. i even saw some kid trying to feed his fish some icee... i wouldnt be surprised if about 80% of all those fish died either that day or the day after...

Awe thats horrible :( That reminds me of the bettas I saw for sale in the shops at the beach.

When i was is Thailand on one of the markets they had about 100 Fighters in tiny bags, they were there all day in the bangkok heat (40oc +) very cruel indeed.

poor little bettas :( where on earth are the fish patrols?!

It sucks how people dont seem to think fish are animals.

These days you hardly see other animals locked in tiny cages and sold in boxes or bags at fairgrounds except fish. Why is this, do people think that fish are stupid and cant feel pain?

I have to say all my fish seem intelligent, and each have their own personality and traits..

If you see bettas or goldfish being sold at fairs get in contact with your local animal protection agency and tell them the HORRORS you saw of kids doing things to their prizes. Feel free to embelish your story, anything to stop the cruel sale of these fish.

Please. If you have to "embelish" your story (ie, lie) the conditions must not be that bad. And in my opinion, a liar is just as bad as a person who is cruel to animals. Maybe even worse. Many people at these fairs don't even realize they are being cruel. People who lie, most always know they are doing it. By all means report animal cruelty. Don't "embelish" your story.

There is nothing wrong with telling a white lie if it saves the life of an animal.

Thats my view anyway.

I think someone said that fish don't count as "animals" (at least in North America) unfortunately :/
