Hi Guys !

I'm sure this has been asked before, but how long should I wait before letting my baby mollies go in the big tank. They were born Feb.19th and are still in their breeding tank.

Would it be okay to let them go in the big tank now....they are still so small I worry about them being eaten.....especially since the other fish (mollies and platies) like to constantly stare at the fry through their tank! It's cute actually

Do you think they'd be okay? Right now I'm feeding them baby fry food...it's like a powder food.

If I let them go in the main tank do I still feed them this?

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask.....

I have a small one gallon tank with a light.

Would it be okay to put the baby fry in there? There is no filter, air pump or heater.....do you think they'd be okay?

The room temp stays pretty consistent so I'm not sure if they would NEED a heater.

It all depends on how big they are.

When we have baby mollies, we are able to shift them from the breeding net to the main tank within a week because they are pretty big to start off with and they grow like nobodies business.

I just had two females give birth in my 20 gal molly tank and everybody is doing fine. Molly's do not eat there young although I am not sure about the platty's. I had clown loaches in the tank but had to take them out because they were eating the fry. I now have two small skunk loaches in the tank for snails and they seem to leave the fry alone. I feed the fry with baby brine shrimp anf ground up flake. Whatch your water chemistry after birth because it can really mess with the water. And congradulations on being a new fish parent.

OK a few days ago I moved a few fry into the main tank. They did well! A few of the fish chased them for a bit, but they got away no problem and nobody seemed overly stressed.

I took them out after about 15 mintues, as I was too scared to leave them unattended!

Last night I moved all of the fry into their own 1 gallon tank. This little tank has a hood with a single light, but has no heater, air pumper or filter.

So far they appear to be doing well. I've been monitoring the temperature in this tank and it seems to be holding steady at about 72-74 degrees.

Is this okay for mollie fry???

Do you think they will do well for another 2 weeks or so until I'm brave enough to move them all to my other tank. They are about a month old and I'd say they are all still WELL under 1 inch in length....they just don't seem to be growing much

I'm beginging to wonder if I'm doing anything wrong?

I feed them fry food (it's a fine powder consistency) twice to three times per day and about once every other day I give them crushed up Freeze dried white shrimp....they seem to love that and it almost seems like the day after they get it, they look a TAD bit bigger!

If the fry are a month old go ahead and dump them in with every body else. I don't know how long the fry can last in stagnet water (no circulation or oxygen) they should do fine. You will lose some but that is just nature.
