Hi,
I added some amano shrimp to my Aquarium a few months back, and love how cool they are, since then I'm very seriously considering a Small Shrimp Tank 25l, it's all I'm allowed. As you Guys are the experts Would you mind answering a few Questions?

How many Shrimp could I keep, I'm thinking Cherry, Tiger and Amano?
Can these be kept together?
Could I have a Thai Micro crab colonie with them? Or am I running before I can walk
Is sand preferable to stones as substrate?

Thanks.

I have a tank around that size with a red cherry shrimp colony. I have no idea how many shrimps are in there now, it's impossible to count them all. I have a plant, Bucephalandra biblis, attached to wood, and Java moss wrapped round another piece of wood, which needs trimming regularly to stop it filling the tank. So plenty of hiding places for shrimps.
I have an Aquael Pat Mini filter, which is just a sponge with a powerhead on top, so it cannot suck up baby shrimps. A sponge filter powered by an air pump is also ideal for shrimps.

I would choose just one species of shrimp though rather than mixing them. And if you choose cherry shrimps, just one colour. I have had mixed colours in my main tank for 11 months and started seeing wild coloured shrimps a few months ago - those are very pale with a few darker markings.

I have sand in the shrimp tank. The close packed particles do make it easier for the shrimps to pick up their food.

I've never kept those crabs so I can't answer that question I'm afraid.

Iv just checked out that pump it looks ideal, the tank I have my eye on comes with a filter, ciano cf40, but I was concerned it would be dangerous, I lost an ADF to a similar one. I literally only found out about the mini crabs today, whilst researching. So my be another time. Thanks again for the advise I have plenty of food for thought
