Thinking Of Setting Up Sa Tank

Ya, I already have a 65 gallon mbuna tank but I wanted to try out SA or CA. Are there any species that would work??

of your list anything except the green terrors, but not as a group.

you might get away with 2 pairs of apisto's ( or 2 2+1 groups) if you create open areas at each end & fill out the middle with plants etc

I would go with a pair of small geophagus such as Geophagus steindachari, tons of character but can easily be over fed since they dont stop begging or looking for food they will even keep eating during water changes. Keyholes are great. How about some bolivian rams, the german blues are a bit tougher to keep but their beauty makes up for that. Also if you were to get a pair of anything be aware that if they spawn they will become very agressive towards any other tank mates. Good luck!!!

you could do a pair of keyholes of rams with some tetras, cory cats, a bristlenose pleco, danios. plant it heavily with some rocks and driftwood and it would be an incredibly beautiful tank. i have my 20 gallon set up with 2 german rams 5 neons, 5 corys, 5 sliver tip tetras, and 5 zebra danios; it is a very pretty and peaceful community tank.

I am thinking of setting up SA tank. I like Green Terrors, Jack Dempsey, and stuff like that.

Right now i don't have a tank so don't ask what tank size. Although what tank size would be good?

Is there a list somewhere of all the different SA profiles?

You can go to "profile" section of cichlid-forum.com... great site for cichlid stuff.

Really research the species you like before committing to them. Do lots of research. The big areas of concern are tank size and aggression. For most cichlids, you'll need at least a 55g or 75g. Bigger for some of the larger species. As for aggression, males tend to not play nice with other males, and you'll find that these fish won't show their true colors until they're 5-6" long... at which point, things might turn not-so-good.

For smaller New World cichlids, don't forget about the Laetacara genus, the dwarf acara's. I'd love to get a pair of these.

I love all of our cichlids equally, but for some reason our chocolate cichlid has a special place in my heart. Maybe it's because we rescued him from certain death at our LFS when he was tiny... or maybe it's his personality.... I dunno.
