Thinking Of Going Marine.....

seems there are alot of bargains about at the minute.....guess the bad times at the min in the economy are our gain.

yea, just wish I was ready to set up a 180g in my lower family room!! There are sales all over the place from people getting out of the hobby.

My business has gone down thanks to the recession and the lack of money around, these things happen..

Anyway I know someone selling a 6' x2 x2 Godiva and sump. Everything included, 100kg live rock, coral fish and all. Deltec skimmer is £600 alone (he says he will take £150! for it). £1500 ono is what hes asking just because of hard times. He says he has spent well over £4000, Ridiculous really

sorry to hear that ozzie. on the plus side at least you can still keep your hobbie going and things can only get better now, well i hope any way.

That is crazy with that guy you know seeling his 4k set up. I dont think i could sell it. My friend has just bought a lancia delta intergrale and is now going to sell his mk1 golf project for 2k after spending 4k on it. i just couldnt do it. i couldnt chuck money away like that. id skimp and scrape to keep it.

Still no definitive answer from my mate on this 125ltr rio my mates getting me. he said he getting it saturday but keeping my fingers crossed. he can be a bit unreliable lol. but fingers crossed. then off to get some salty water and then it begins :) :) :)

I know i defo want two clowns.....but not sure what else. i think maybe a goby of some sort or maybe a fire fish as theyre rather nice looking. Also seen these bright blue fish which i like....descisions decisions. hehe

If you have the ability to collect Ben you will pick up a real bargain on Ebay. Always marines going unsold for £300 - £500 often with halides which is all I use until they bring out affordable leds that do the same job.

It might sound a lot but... as an example a few years ago I sold a rio 125 ltr full setup. Back then I used to buy everything new and used to pay top prices for things like Live rock. It sold for £400 which was quite a good price for the size of the tank, until you realise I spent around £1400 setting it up.

These full setup are well worth it in my opinion. Can seem a bit daunting spending a wedge on the offset but chances are you will save in the longrun and it gives you a chance to start off with everything off the bat, so you can just replace items as you need or want. That the way I see it anyway ;)

well a little update on the rio 125. My mate was meant to drop it off last thrusday....then he said sat...now its going to be tuesday. Starting to wonder if he will ever go get it. Also I've been told im going to the falklands in June for 4 months with work :( so im not sure if i should start a marine or just do a tropical for a short time....close the tank for the 4 months im away and then when im back go marine ?!? im confused.

To be honest mate I wouldn't go marine if you plan on shutting it down in 4 months time by then it would only just be starting to establish and then when you come back you've got to go through the whole process again. Not to mention the LR won't be very live in those 4 months when your away and it's out of water. If you want to go marine before hand then you'll need to find someone to look after the tank and Its inhabitants while your away and someone who has a little experience with Marie setups and not the elderly next door neighbour lol
don't forget marine tanks need weekly water changes and water tests and when replacing water getting the salt mix right so salinity is at 1.025 sg. Will be a lot of bother for someone looking after your tank with no experience.

That's my thought anyway! Good luck with what ever you decide mate.

Bit of a dumb thing to say 'get someone to look after it for you..........for 4 months! Sorry been one of those days! Lol

hmmm yeah... i might go for some thing big n freshwater and set up a marine tank when i come back. maybe a nice malawi set up or maybe go crazy and get some thing bigger like some oscars lol.
