Thinking Of Entering This World

all righty then. What I plan to do is.....

perfect the 38 gallon.

ditch the 10 gallon. (to the closet man!)

bring in the 20 long, detach the shelf divider, and set it in the middle.

Get lights. Get a heater. Get a biowheel that can do 10x at least Total GPH (that's average for marine, right?)

Set it up with sand substrate (probably white sand so the extra can go mix in the 38 gallon)

Get live rock and set it in. Let that set for a week and a half so the ammonia/nitrate goes through

Bring in the cleanup crew (I'll ask on specific shrimp n snails and inverts later on with you all when I'm actually doing this) and let them worm 2-3 weeks

Put the fish in. Thinking clown and Fire dart fish, but we'll see. plans are always subject to change :p

Then start looking into corals more intensly, maybe clams, and so on.

Bio Wheel ???

Do you mean Powerhead, If so I would aim for 15 - 20x rather than 10

The kits you will need from the beggining are: Ammonia, NitrIte, NitrAte, pH & Phos

You will also need eitther a Refractomter or Hydromter

I would stay away from Clams for the 6 months or so, you will also need a higher level of lighting to house a clam

all righty then. I'll stray from clams untill I can properly light them :good:

Yeah the pinned topics help on getting started and such. Havent got much help for stalking ideas from there tho.

If i were you Gan, id just stick to softies for a good while, cos clams are pretty hard (from what ive heard). You can get loads of variations of mushrooms, and leaters, and zoas and lots of other things...and you know that theyll be ok in your lighting...

Gasps? Who are we stalking?

Just kidding mate. Anyways, it sounds like I have a plan now. Really, I'd rather not rely on a LFS for lighting options, but I guess exotic aquatics are pretty user friendly and should have what I need.

Agreed, 20x flowrate in powerheads :). Either two 10x or one 20x would suffice. Also to chime in on sand... Make sure you get aragonite sand as it will assist you in buffering the tank longterm. Aragonite isn't the best for freshwater unless you're going Chiclid :)

 Man, sometime this fourm makes me laugh

Anyways, yes. I'll get an appropriet filter, lighting, and so on. anything else anyone suggust as to my plans above?

everyone in the tropical section seems to of gone mean. everyone here is much more helpful without biting my balls of. im definately drifting more to saltwater loving nanos and have been reasearching for bout 2 months now. now to start saving :(

I have the money.

I have the information

I have the reasources

The question is....

A: do I upgrade to 20 long?
B: do i do corals and lights?

The biggest tank that COULD fit my budget would be huge.

The biggest tank I can probably get would be a 24 cube due to parents.
