Ok, so I have this really boring AquaOne 380 (7.48 galls or 34 ltrs) (See Signiture)

Just got a few endlers/guppies and lilac spot cory (nice) and pigmy cory (which I never see)

Obviously I would remove the endlers/guppies if I were to go Betta. What about the little corys?

It has the overhead trickle filter system which I want to keep but this would interfere with the little chaps bubble nesting would it not?.....Problem?

This filter system does create a current, not particularily strong but it is there (well for the little endlers anyway!)

Its either Betta or Dwarf Puffers but either way it's going to get a change to it's present state!

Basically, is this set up suitable and if I were to have 1 really fancy male (suggestions) what tank mates if any?

Any advice appreciated

Your old tank I bought off you ended up with a betta and 6 pygmy cory. I've been delighted with it!

I looked for a long time to find a quality Betta, Aquajardin in Fair Oak has them rarely and they are expensive. I ended up going to Bournemouth to DP Fishways run by Modaz on here - That was by far the largest selection of quality Betta that I have ever seen anywhere.

Cheers

Mark

Oh yeah - the tank!

Hi Doresy

Good to hear your thinking of getting a betta :good:

We have a tank similar to yours and originally it was home to a male Veil tail and a few cory's. It is now divided (just over 3 gallons either side) and is home to a male plakat & oto on one side, and a dragon male on the other. Works really nicely.

I dont think you will have a problem with the filter, especially if you plant it out to break the flow up. As for tank mates, pygmy cories or oto's go quite well. I think some people have shrimps with their males too.

Keep us informed

Hi snapefish........LOVE the tank.....can I buy it back now!

Thanks too, bronzecat, for your input. Outstanding collection!

So my tank is ok for a Betta with the present filtration. I was going to go for tall, grass like plants and quite dense. My Pigmy Cory will be ok but what about my Lilac Spot Cory? For those who are not familiar they stay on the bottom (unlike pigmy cory) and stay small and peaceful.

Nope, fraid not - its all mine!

Cory generally should be fine. They are one of the best betta tankmates I know of. I have kept ottos and amano shrimp with mine in the past. Terry bullied the otto mercilessly and the amano, even though it was as big as the betta, ended up as a rather large tasty snack.

I believe with dwarf puffers, they actually need a bit of salinity even though they are freshwater. Keeping track of evaporation versus changed water to keep the right amount is a bit extra work, though they are cute little devils.

I think going with a betta would be great. Lots of room for the bugger. Not sure if a plant that had a bit of surface area would help, since I had a divider also, so the surface movement was very minimal, but mine built a nest in that situation. The one closer, but still divided, his plants didn't grow so tall, and his nest could stay together if he placed it in the right spot against the glass, otherwise, it would disperse on him, though he kept trying.

Just make sure you are happy with your decision, it makes all the work worth it :)
