Thinking About Starting A Planted Tank

hi ive been keeping fish for over 8 years now and im thinking of starting a low tech planted aquarium.
i got the tank for free it is the same tank that practical fishkeeping gave away in november 2006 but mine is a bigger size of 40 litres.
also the light that came with it broke suddenly so i had to get an old juwel rekord 60 hood and place it over the top it looks very bad.
as it is now the tank has some branchlike wood a 3inch layer of sand and some cutting of a stem plant that my uncle game me i think its called eusteralis stellata and ceratopteris thalicrroides to fight the tank from algae there growin really well
lighitng is 2 watt per gallon ( i Think ) on for 8 hours a day
i was also given a red sea turbo bio co2 system that came with a powerhead as a diffuser, shall i use this with diy co2(ive already read all the stickys in this forum)

ive also done some research for plants and i found some plants that can survive on low light only gonna use some of them

Cryptocoryne wendtii ''brown''
Cryptocoryne wendtii ''green'
Cryptocoryne nevillii also called Cryptocoryne x willisii
Bolbitis heudelotii on on the wood and mayb some anubius


anyone kno wer i can buy a new tube for my light will the power compact lights from interpet work...

hi u could try online stores in your country im not sure which ones but if u are in america u could try also ur tank sounds like it will look very good

You could consider an Interpet. I've just mounted one on my 18"x12"x12" clearseal tank. Take a look at how I did it.

Either that, or if money isn't so much of an issue you could consider a luminaire from somewhere like Aqua Essentials or other places. Just make sure the bulbs have a good light spectrum and aren't marine.
