have recently fallen in LOVE with cichlids .I would LOOOOVE to own myself some

My question is this:
I have a 20-25 gallon that someone gave me and thought, hey, maybe I can put some there!!
What are your suggestions of cichlids I can put here? I personally think that cockatoo dwarfs are amazingly beautiful!

PS: I would love to keep more than one kind, but this may not be possible. Also, I know that many cichlids need dither fish, If you suggest a type of cichlid it would be super helpful(but not necessary) to suggest a dither for it!

Thanks in advance!!!!

ANOTHER THING: I may get a kribensis cichlid if I don't go with a new world, but to me, so far I am between dwarf cockatoo and kribensis. Spin me around with new fish and I will be uber insanely delighted :)

Apistogramma Borelli
Apistogramma Agassizi
Apistogramma Papagei
Apistogramma Cacatuoide
Apistogramma Nijsenni (really wets the appetite)

Hope this helps somewhat. Having more than a pair of each of these could pose problems for you, not because of temperament, but due to constricts with the size of tank you wish to keep these in. 20-25G isn't "small", but in terms of cichlids it is rather limiting. A pair of any of these woulld be rewarding to keep though!

The Apistogramma Cacatuoide was super cute.

I would love to get them a 50 gallon tank, but alas, Mother of the house says that 7 tanks is enough.... :(

What do you guys think of a rosy red minnow school as dithers?

If you keep cichlids long enough you will find a way to get the bigger tank trust me. I started with a 36gal now I have an 80 and 100gal.

Maybe try something easy at first like a pair of Bolivian Rams?

They seemed pretty too, but I think I still like the Apistogramma Cacatuoide. Although, if my store doesnt carry them (or kribs) I will get those. Thanks for the input!

Try apistogramma agassizii "fire red" they are an orange male and a yellow female and are just gorgeous. plain colours but so nosy and fun to watch...
This a new variant of the original agassizii.

Sorry forgot to say my dither fish are neon tetras about 8 of them and as they all come from the amazon they seem to be doing well together.

Microgeophagus ramirezi? There are 3 strains: Standard, Electric Blue and Gold, they'll need a temperature of at least 28[sup]o[/sup]C however, and you'll have to choose suitable tank mates if you want them.

Thanks!! Do you think i could keep apistogramma cacatuoides with neons as the two are related fishes?

The two are related fishes? What? Maybe its just me, but i don't follow what you mean. Apistogramma species are not related to Tetras. Thats what i understand you to be saying.

Apistos are fantastic, I was very very tempted today when I came across a pair of double reds for £12... most places sell them for at least £20.

Also, as James said, I have no idea why you think neons and apistos are related?
